What the two pieces do
Pinokio is the installer. It is a desktop app whose job is to set up local AI tools, including their Python environments and dependencies, when you click Install. Wan2GP is the tool being installed: a local generator that puts several open video models behind one browser interface, written specifically for people whose GPUs are too small for the standard setups. MiniMax H3 is one of the models on its list, next to Wan 2.2, LTX-2 and HunyuanVideo. Think of it as a launcher and an engine. Pinokio gets the engine onto your machine; Wan2GP is where you work.
This route exists because the default one puts people off. Our ComfyUI guide to running H3 locally works, and it gives you more control, but it asks you to manage nodes, model folders and versions yourself. Every step is a place for a first attempt to fail.
Before you start
Before starting, check GPU compatibility, system RAM and available storage. Around 60GB free is a reasonable initial planning allowance, not a fixed requirement or maximum. The installation environment, downloaded checkpoints, caches and generated clips can consume substantial additional space. Confirm where Pinokio stores applications and where WanGP saves model files and outputs, rather than assuming every file will necessarily remain on one drive.
On hardware specifically: this route targets Windows or Linux PCs with a supported discrete GPU — NVIDIA GTX 10-series or newer, or a compatible recent Radeon card via the AMD script. WanGP's documentation puts optimized H3 configurations at approximately 5–6 GB of VRAM for a five-second clip and 8–9 GB for a fifteen-second clip at 832×480. Treat 6 GB as an experimental floor, not a recommended specification. And leave time for the transfers: the install and the first model download are large, and starting them on a slow connection or a tight schedule is its own frustration.
The setup
*Method note:* This is a documentation-based walkthrough, compiled from the WanGP project's instructions and published setup guides. We have not installed or benchmarked this workflow on a local machine. The steps describe the intended setup; compatibility and performance will vary by hardware and software version.
1. Download Pinokio from its official website, install it, and choose a storage location with ample free space. On Windows, check the download's publisher and source before responding to any SmartScreen warning; do not bypass a security warning solely because a tutorial tells you to.
2. In Pinokio, open Discover and search for wan2gp. Identify Morpheus's community-maintained wan2gp script for NVIDIA or wan2gp-amd for compatible AMD hardware. WanGP's developer recommends these scripts over Pinokio's default listing. Review the script source before allowing installation, then follow its on-screen download and installation prompts.
3. Launch WanGP from Pinokio. The application provides a browser-based interface. Select an appropriate MiniMax H3 variant and allow the required model files to download. Open the built-in Guides tab for recommended settings, and begin with a short, low-resolution generation suited to your GPU.
4. For a Pinokio-managed installation, use Pinokio's update workflow rather than manually replacing packages or pulling repository changes inside the managed environment.
The catches
'One click' describes a simplified installation workflow, not guaranteed compatibility or fast generation. MiniMax H3 remains a large model, and lower-VRAM configurations may rely heavily on system memory, quantization and offloading. WanGP's software license is separate from the licenses attached to individual model weights, including MiniMax H3. Check the exact H3 model card and license terms before commercial deployment or relying on particular rights to generated output. Running locally also shifts costs toward hardware, electricity, storage and time rather than eliminating them.
