Five times the mid-year figure, in one quarter

The arithmetic is the announcement. A cumulative order total that stood at roughly 600 billion won at the end of June passed 3 trillion won by the end of September. Comparing LG's two cumulative figures implies an increase of roughly 2.4 trillion won or more during Q3, assuming the reporting scope remained consistent. The release does not separately itemize the orders or adjustments behind that change. This is a business most readers still file under air conditioning.

LG does not itemize the total by customer or deal in the release, and readers should not fill that gap for it. A long-term agreement to supply chillers for 5 gigawatts of North American AI data center capacity, announced on October 6 with its value undisclosed, belongs to the weeks after this quarter closed. Whatever made up the third-quarter jump, LG has not named it. What the release establishes is the size of the book and the speed at which it grew, not its contents.

Orders are not revenue

Orders become recognized revenue as LG fulfills its contractual performance obligations under the applicable accounting rules. The release does not specify when or how revenue from these AI cooling contracts will be recognized. The distance between the two numbers is visible inside the same release. The Eco Solution Company, which houses HVAC and the cooling business, booked 2.17 trillion won of revenue in the third quarter across every line it sells, and 87.2 billion won of operating profit. LG says that unit's profitability was partly affected by the costs of expanding capacity to meet future orders. The company is also putting an additional 220 billion won into production sites, including a US manufacturing base near major AI data center clusters.

That sequence is normal for industrial suppliers, and it is the part to watch. LG itself names the test: in the fourth quarter, the Eco Solution Company's top priority is timely delivery of large-scale AI data center cooling projects. Projects that deliver late, or at margins thinned by the capacity built to serve them, are worth less than the headline total suggests. Successful execution could make AI data center cooling a more material contributor to LG's existing Eco Solution revenue and earnings, although the release does not quantify that contribution.

A strong quarter, with one new engine

The group numbers behind the disclosure were solid without any AI framing. Third-quarter operating profit rose to 781.9 billion won from 688.9 billion won a year earlier, net profit rose 53.7% to 708.4 billion won, and cumulative operating profit for the first three quarters reached 4.03 trillion won, up 55.9%. Vehicle components posted record third-quarter revenue and operating profit, and home appliances held revenue above 7 trillion won for a second consecutive quarter.

Cooling is not yet what carries those totals. It is one of the clearest signals in this release of LG's ambitions beyond consumer electronics: a rapidly expanding cumulative order total tied to AI data center construction rather than household replacement cycles. The robotics line in the same release points the same way. LG's Data Factory, which it calls Korea's largest robotics data factory, has begun partial operations. Neither line has its own revenue figure in this release. That absence is the honest limit of the story, and the first thing a follow-up should look for.
